Artist Statement
My work is rooted in the search for balance between movement and stillness, spontaneity and structure, surface presence and emotional depth. Working in acrylics, stippling, and ink-and-colored-pencil drawings on paper, I build each composition through layered marks, gestural line work, and deliberate interruption, allowing tension and harmony to coexist within the same visual field.
Abstraction provides a language for engaging what is often sensed before it is fully named: interior shifts, quiet resilience, fragmentation, contemplation, and renewal. Whether atmospheric or structurally defined, each piece is developed to sustain prolonged viewing, revealing subtle shifts in rhythm, density, and energy over time.
I am less concerned with immediate resolution than with creating works that unfold gradually—compositions that hold space for reflection, reward close attention, and continue to resonate beyond the first encounter.

Self-Portrait
Meticulous Stippling
Rendered in fine stipple, this self-portrait offers a window into the artist’s inner world—warmth glows beneath the surface, depth lingers in the gaze, and spirit dwells beyond likeness. The subtle smile and inviting eyes gently welcome connection, embodying both technical mastery and profound patience as a fleeting expression becomes an enduring work of art.

In my early works, I experimented with a wide range of materials burlap, fabric, gesso, papier-mâché, plastics, colored pencils, oils, water-based paints, and pen and ink each medium offering its own texture, depth, and story to the work. .
In my early works, I also explored monochromatic compositions using pen and ink, lint, papier-mâché, newspaper, gesso, and textured surfaces combined with water-based paints creating both intimate and large-scale pieces on canvas, wood, and paper.

"Bold, Unique, and Thought-Provoking."Lydia's stippling technique in her 'Ride or Die' piece creates an energy that draws you in. The patience and precision required for each dot tell a powerful story. This work is more than just art; it's an experience. It brings such depth and character to my home."– Mary J., Contemporary Art Enthusiast.
"A Strong and Thoughtful Presence. "The ‘Man of the House’ piece is an awe-inspiring representation of strength and vulnerability. Lydia’s meticulous stippling technique brings depth and emotion to the piece, making it feel both personal and universally powerful. It’s a statement work, one that exudes authority and introspection."– Bill M., Fine Art Collector.
Azure Majesty commands attention with its bold, graphic depiction of a rooster against a deep black background. The comb and wattle, rendered in striking blue, display subtle texture and depth, adding richness and sophistication. Precise lines and careful structure give the bird a strong presence, making this an iconic image. -Fine Art Judge
Forward Without Applause: The simplicity of this piece draws you in to appreciate all of the details. The use of diagonals with the rain helps to push us in the direction that she is walking, also making us aware of the use of positive and negative space within the composition. The empty space is forcing the eye to follow the direction of the action. Effective use of textures in the variety of pen strokes to differentiate the different elements. Having the figure out of the center makes for a strong composition. The story is short and sweet. -Nancy O, FA Judge
